8. SYNOPTICS

(In English below)

'Nähdäkseen järjestystä epäjärjestyksessä on antauduttava' toistellaan kertosäkeessä. Siihen on hyvä lopettaa."

"Finally the ambitious last song Synoptics aka mad scientist song. It must be personally one of the most successful songs I've made if not the most successful. I think it was quite obvious ending track for the album with its tempo and outro all the way from the beginning. Unlike many other song on the record it's not based on any particular rhythm and  due to this it's very diverse song. Even with different kind of riffs and variations I would say it's not falling apart and is quite easy to
listen, might even find something to grab. The structure of the song was a big problem for a long time even though the material was ready. Finally the pieces found their places. There are some quite amusing arrangements in the song like the humppa (Finnish dance music) like bass lines and samba rhythm in the chorus, dunno if anyone can spot it though. There's also some low tuned guitar riffing, higher tapping sections, growled, raspy and clean vocals, high and low, all the cards on the table. In the c-part there's very uplifting melody taken from some song of Eurovision song contest, I was on the top of my singers 'career' while recording it. After dancing samba in the final chorus back to the vibes of the intro track and the finish line is passed."

"I came up with the idea about the mad scientist quite early: after the intro of the song was made I got strong associations of this mad scientist crouching in his laboratory. So, the text is about a person who is not able to see, feel or sense anything because of excessive rationalizing. Here meaning very excessive. Therefore after ignoring himself and losing his mind he realizes the disadvantages of excessive rationalizing and begins to see things differently. That's what the title Synoptics stands for, seeing everything in the same time, like synopsis. 'In order to see order is to surrender' is repeated in the chorus. In the c-part the scientist makes the greatest discovery on Earth after realizing how excessive rationalizing was making him blind. At this point we are in the core of synapses and universe. The eureka shout was must to have there, might not be completely similar to the original one though. In the end of the song it's suggested to let go of the controlling stick, even with the collision course. It's good to end here."

7. BLANK

Huhhuijaa."

"The seventh and second last song on the record, Blank. While creating the song I though it was going to be some kind of ballad but guess it doesn't fulfill the criteria of a ballad. Firstly it is not particularly slow song even though it's probably the most calm song on the album. Secondly, unlike sad ballads the ambiance of the song is more positive and foggy. Anyway, it's calmer song and it provides a nice break before the final spurt and climax. The writing process of the song was really quick and it was one of the latest finished songs which were made for the album. The song and its structure must be the simplest I've made and once again it's based on one single rhytmical idea. The vocal track is also very straightforward without any backing vocals or doublings. The chords of the song are very jazz-like for some reason and due to this the ambiance is quite unique especially in the c-section and chorus considering the whole album. There are a couple of guitar solos in the song, first quite uplifting solo in the c-section and second very jazzy and smooth in the end of the song. Next time maybe the 'real' ballad then. Or maybe not."

"Regarding the text I had some problems because of lack of ideas. As the other texts progressed the title for the song started to perceive. The text is about emptiness, literally and figuratively, if I've been talking about floating in space earlier this song is literally about it. After the previous explosion one is collecting the pieces in the void and dumps the pain into a blank hole, travels in spacetime through wormhole and wonders what has happened. In the end there is a cross section of the whole album and there we are, one song away from finishing the album. Phew."
